“How do you feel about trying
some food?” he said after a pause.
“I don’t know” she said.
“Give it a go” he said
“just something light. You’ll feel better with food in your stomach”
“Okay” she said “I’ll
try.”
He smiled and got up to
order some toast and jam.
When the food came Taki
managed to eat some of it and after a second cup of tea Idyn thought she was
okay to go home. When he suggested it, she did not argue. He bought another
bottle of water for her to take with her and they walked back to the car. She
could walk unaided now but Idyn stayed close.
“Don’t yell at me” he said
when they reached his car “but I’m going to open the door for you.”
Taki smiled for the first
time since he had found her in the alley “I’ll let you get away with it just
this once” she teased.
He grinned and after
helping her into the back, he got in the front and drove to her apartment
block.
When he pulled up out
front Iden got out and once again opened the door for her. “I guess you’re
going to have to forgive me twice” he said.
She smiled and let him
help her out. He closed the door and looking down at her he said “will you be okay
to work tomorrow?”
“Thanks to you, I think so”
she said then after a pause she added “but that’s tomorrow.” Her hand came up
and rested on his chest. She looked up and met his gaze. “Now it’s still
tonight.”
Idyn knew what she was
suggesting, he could read it in her eyes and his heart began to pound against
his ribs. More than anything he wanted to go up to her room with her and spend
the night in her arms, in her bed but he wasn’t going to do it.
“Taki” he said “that’s not
a good idea, not now.”
Her hand dropped away and
as he watched her face flushed and her eyes hardened. He knew she didn’t
understand and she was in no condition to listen to his explanation.
“No you’re right, how
stupid of me” she said and she span around and almost ran inside before he
could say any more.
Idyn swore and slowly he walked
around the car. He knew he had done the right thing but just then it didn’t
feel like it.
He knows it is the right thing even though it doesn't feel like it now
