Part 587

That night Gaby said to Josh “I think we are just about ready.”
“And with two weeks to spare’ Josh teased.
“One thing I do still have to do is organise some transport. I know the church isn’t far, but I really don’t feel like walking it.”
“I’ve done that” Josh said “and I’ve booked a room at a hotel not far away for the night before.”
“For you or me?” Gaby asked with a smile.
“Your choice” Josh said.
“I think I’ll let you take it” she said.
“I thought you might say that” he said with a smile.
Then as Gaby yawned he asked “you okay?”
“Yes, just tired.”
“We see that doctor on Monday yeah?”
“Yes, but tireness in normal. So stop worrying. Are you still able to come?”
“Yep, I’ll meet you there. I’ll come home and sleep for a while first.”
“I wish you weren’t working night shift” she said.
“Part of the job” he said.
“I know” she said “doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

Part 588

Gaby managed to endure Josh’s stint on night shift. She wasn’t sure whether it was the hormones flowing through her or just the thought of being responsible for another life now but whatever it was it made her more jumpy than normal. She didn’t sleep well the whole five nights, starting awake at the slightest noise. So the first night Josh was home she couldn’t to wait to go to bed with the knowledge she wouldn’t be awake all night.

The next morning being Saturday, Josh and Gaby slept late. Then after a leisurely breakfast they went for a walk.
“So one week to go” Josh said as they walked along the shore “are we all set?”
“Pretty much” Gaby said.
“Good and you see the doctor again before the wedding?”
“Yes, next week” Gaby said and turning to look up at Josh she added “by the way, what were you talking to the doctor about last time?”
Josh grinned “nothing” he said kissing her head.
“It was a long conversation about nothing” Gaby said with a frown.
“Just asking some questions about being a father” Josh said.
Gaby wasn’t sure she believed him but she decided not to push it. It was too nice a day to spend it worrying about things that didn’t matter. She shrugged and looked straight ahead again.

Part 589

The next Friday night Josh was packed and ready to leave for the hotel. He pulled Gaby into his arms and looking down at her he said “next time I see you you’ll be walking down the aisle to me.”
Gaby smiled “I can’t wait.”
“Don’t be late then” he teased.
“It’s traditional for the bride to be late” she teased.
“I don’t do traditional” Josh said with a stern expression “don’t keep me waiting.”
Gaby laughed “I’ll do my best.”
“Hmm” Josh said “you’re going to be late on purpose now aren’t you?”
“Would I do that?” Gaby said with a chuckle.
“Yes” he said.
She laughed again and wrapping her arms around his neck she said “don’t worry, I won’t be able to wait so I’ll probably be early.”
He smiled “good.” Then lowering his head he gave her a quick but hot kiss. Picking up his bag he said “see ya” and walked out.
“Bye” Gaby said and closed the door behind him.

Part 590

At eight o’clock Sandra arrived at Josh and Gaby’s. She was going to stay the night with the bride to be. Gaby hugged her when she opened the door. “Can you believe I’m going to be married tomorrow?”
“It doesn’t matter whether I believe it” Sandra said as she moved inside and Gaby shut the door “do you believe it?”
“I’m trying to make it sink in” Gaby said with a grin “but it seems so unreal.”
“It’ll be real enough tomorrow” Sandra said.
“I know.” Gaby gave a nervous laugh. “It’s all happened so quick, I still can’t quite get my head around it.”
Sandra gave her a searching look and said “can you tell me now why that’s the case.”
Gaby’s face sobered. She didn’t want to lie to Sandra but Josh and she had made a pact not to tell anyone until she was twelve weeks along so she said “if there was something to tell and I was going to tell anyone, I’d tell you.”
Sandra looked at her for a second. She had her own ideas about what was going on but if Gaby wasn’t ready to tell her for whatever reason, then she wasn’t going to push her. She smiled “okay” she said “good enough.”
Gaby smiled too. She was pleased Sandra hadn’t tried to force the issue. If there was one thing she hated, it was people trying to make you say or do something you didn’t want to, just because they thought it was the right thing. “Let’s have a drink” Gaby said with an excited giggle as she led Sandra into the kitchen.

Part 591

Early the next morning Gaby and Sandra had breakfast outside. The weather was fine and mild, perfect for a wedding.
“Are we walking to the church?” Sandra asked.
“In my dress, I don’t think so” Gaby said with a laugh.
Sandra laughed “good. I wasn’t looking forward to it in my shoes” and looking at her watch she said “we’d better get you dressed.”
Gaby put her hands to her face “you know I never thought I’d be this nervous.”
“Come on” Sandra said standing up with a laugh “you’ll be fine, just remember it’s Josh waiting for you, not a stranger.”
Gaby grinned and got to her feet. “You’re right, thanks Sandra.”
“You’re welcome, now let’s get you ready or you’ll be late.”
“And I promised Josh I’d be on time.”
“He must know that’s not likely” Sandra said with a laugh.
“I will be” Gaby assured her.
Sandra just smiled, she didn’t believe her but she wasn’t going to argue with the bride on her wedding day.

Part 592

As it turned out, Gaby proved Sandra wrong and with her father, she was in the car ready to leave ten minutes before the ceremony was due to begin. The drive to the church would take less than a minute.
Gaby’s white beaded, silk, strapless ball gown was spread out around her, to minimize the creasing. It’s fullness crowding her father to the extreme righthand side of the back seat of the black Daimler.Gaby adjusted the veil over her face and gave her bridesmaid a superior smile as Sandra handed her her flowers.
Sandra smiled as she looked at her watch, “okay you win.”
“Told you” Gaby said with a laugh “now get in the car before you undo all my good work and make me late anyway and then you’ll have to explain it to Josh.”
Sandra didn’t relish the prospect of upsetting Josh. She had been witness to his temper even if it had never been directed at her. He was intimidating to say the least. With a laugh she said “no thanks” and she got into the car. She smoothed down her own silver rouched dress as the door was closed and once the driver had seated himself back behind the wheel, they proceeded to the church.

Part 593

Thirty minutes later Gaby walked out of the church with Josh, feeling as happy as she’d ever been. He looked so gorgeous in his dark grey suit he’d taken her breath away when she’d seen him waiting at the top of the aisle for her. Even after all the years they’d been together, when she hadn’t seen him for a while she still got a shock at how incredible he was and the fact that he loved her. Today as she’d walked towards him, to become his wife that sensation had been increased a hundred fold.

“All good Mrs Joshua?” he said as they waited in the sunshine for their guests to emerge. Gaby had completely blown him away when he’d seen her walk into the church. She was always beautiful to him, but today, she glowed like she had been lit from within.

Gaby smiled up at him “just perfect” she said.
Josh leaned down and kissed her. “I love you” he said against her mouth.

“Okay enough of that, save it for when you’re alone” Lawson teased “you guys owe us a drink.”

Josh lifted his head. “I don’t recall you holding back on your wedding day mate” he said.

“Yeah but I supplied you with a drink first” Lawson teased with a smirk.

Josh rolled his eyes but was prevented for answering as Gaby’s father, William Rutherford reached the couple and with a smile put out his hand to his new son-in-law, “I know I don’t need to tell you to look after my girl” he said “you’ve been doing a great job of that for a while now. So I’ll just say welcome to the family.”
“Thanks” Josh said as ever uncomfortable with praise.
Gaby smiled and reaching up kissed her father’s cheek she said, “thank you Dad.”
“My pleasure. Be happy yeah?”
“I am” Gaby said smiling up at Josh “very.”
Josh gave her a wink.

Part 594

Josh and Gaby got into the car for the short trip home. The guests were going to walk the short distance and the few minutes before they arrived gave Josh some time alone with his wife. While he checked that the caterers had everything in hand Gaby removed her veil and checked her hair was still neat.

Josh grabbed her arm and turning her away from the mirror in the entry he pulled her into his arms. “You look beautiful” he said as his lips grazed her neck, working their way up to her jaw.

Gaby shivered and wrapped her arms around his neck. “You look pretty good yourself” she said trying to coax his mouth onto hers.

He smiled against her skin and evaded her lips. Teasing her. “How do you feel?” he said.

“I’m good” she said following his every move.

“Not too tired?” he said.
“Not today” she said and unable to take it any longer took hold of his face and brought her mouth into contact with his for a fierce kiss.
Josh smiled against her lips and as there was a knock on the door, he lifted his head with reluctance and looked down at her. “Later” he said.
Gaby sighed “if I last that long. “I may need to drag you into a cupboard.”
He laughed and stepping back, he opened the door.

Part 595

The catering was delicious, the drinks flowed and everyone was having a good time but all Josh wanted was some time alone with Gaby. After a couple of hours he’d had enough. Finding Gaby talking to her father, he waited for the older man to wander away to get a drink and whispered in her ear “ready to get out of here?”
Gaby turned her head and smiled at him “I thought you’d never ask.”
Josh grinned.
“But where are we going to go, we’re home?” she said. “We can’t just go upstairs.”

His smile widened. “Well we could, but we don’t have to. I’ve got something organised. Just throw something in a bag for tomorrow. My stuff’s already in the car.”
“More surprises” she said “I’m not sure I can take much more” and reaching up she gave him a quick kiss.
As she moved back he winked at her and she headed towards the stairs.

Part 596

Watching Gaby go Josh was smiling to himself. He couldn’t believe how much his life had changed in the last couple of months. A new house, his first child on the way and now he and Gaby were married, he finally had what he wanted more than anything, a family of his own.

“Looking forward to kicking us out?” Lawson teased as he moved to stand next to him, snapping Josh out of his reverie.

“You? Yeah” Josh joked. Then as Lawson rolled his eyes he added “nah you guys can stay as long as you like, but Gaby and I are taking off in a minute. Her Dad’s going to lock up for us.”

“Good thinking” Lawson said. “Where are you staying?”

Josh grinned “not a chance in hell I’m telling you that” Josh said.

Lawson smirked.

Part 597

As Gaby walked through the living room Sandra caught up with her. “Everything okay Gaby?”

Gaby turned and smiled “yes, just time for Josh and I to go. I just need to pack a bag first.”

“Oh aren’t you staying here?”

“Apparently not” Gaby said. “Josh has something organized.”
Sandra smiled “perfect, your wedding day should be full of surprises.”
“Your’s certainly was” Gaby said with a laugh.
“Yeah just not for us” Sandra said with a smile.
“I seem to remember Lawson got one thing past you.”
Her expression softening as she remembered her family appearing at their wedding Sandra nodded “yes, that was wonderful.”
“As you said, that’s what your wedding day should be.”
Her smiled widening Sandra linked her arm through Gaby’s and she said “come on I’ll give you a hand.”

Part 598

Two hours later Josh picked Gaby up and carried her across the threshold of the luxurious hotel suite he’d booked for their wedding night. As he’d arranged there were fresh flowers, a cold dinner and a cold bottle of champagne waiting. He had also ordered some juice knowing Gaby would only have one glass.

Gaby laughed as he set her down in the middle of the huge bed before going back to put the do not disturb sign on the outer door knob. She looked around the room, taking in the seating area and kitchenette she could see through the double doors of the bedroom and then looking to her left inspected the marble and chrome bathroom.

Josh walked back into the room and discarding his jacket tossed it towards a chair.

“This is beautiful” she said and he sat down beside her, loosening his tie.

“Not as beautiful as my wife” he said pulling her down to lie in his arms. His lips found hers.

Gaby wrapped her arms around his neck then moving back, starting to sit up she said “let me just get out of this dress.”

Josh pulled her back to him. “Not yet” he said his hand pulling the dress up until he found the hem and slid his hand underneath. “I like the dress” he said.

Gaby smiled and kissed him. But all of a sudden Josh’s hand stopped moving and he lifted his head. Sitting up he lifted her dress further so he could see what his hand had already discovered. He smiled and looked at Gaby. “Okay get rid of the dress.”

Part 599

Gaby laughed. She stood up and turned around then looking back over her shoulder she said, “I’ll need some help with the buttons.”

Josh raised an eyebrow at her. “Did ya have to get some many?”

She laughed again “get on with it” she said.

Josh sat on the bed and stood Gaby between his legs. After every couple of buttons he leaned in and kissed her skin. Gaby had to bite her bottom lip to remain still.

Finally the last button was released and the dress dropped to her feet. Gaby heard Josh’s intake of breath and looked back at him over her shoulder again. He placed his hands on her hips and slowly turned her to face him. She had bought stockings to wear under her wedding dress with a wide section of white lace that fitted around her upper thigh. She also bought a matching bra and underwear. Around her left leg she’d placed a white satin garter with a tiny silver heart hanging from it. On the heart was engraved one word, Josh. “You’re beautiful” he rasped.
“Thank you” she said, with a smile.
Josh lifted the heart with his finger and rubbed his thumb over his name.
“I like this” he said.

“I was hoping you would” Gaby said and bending she gave him a quick but hot kiss before pushing him back onto the bed. Kicking her shoes off she moved to sit astride his hips.

Looking down at him she said “I’ll love you always Josh.”

“Good” he said smiling and rolling over so she was lying beneath him,“because you’re stuck with me.” Then his smile slipping away he said “I love you Gaby. Without you I’m nothing.”

“Then we’re good” Gaby said with a smile “now kiss me will you?”

Josh smiled and did as she asked.

 Part 600

A few weeks later Gaby and Josh had Lawson and Sandra over for a barbeque on a Sunday afternoon. As the two couples sat out in the sun Gaby said “Josh and I have some news. We’re going to have a baby.”

Gaby laughed at Lawson’s shocked expression but she noticed Sandra just smiled.
“You knew didn’t you?” Gaby said.
“I suspected” Sandra said with a smile.
“You could have told me” Lawson said and putting his hand out to Josh he said “congratulations mate.”
Sandra laughed “it wasn’t my secret to tell. I just assumed there was a reason for the wedding happening so quickly.”
Lawson got up and came around and kissed Gaby “congratualtions Gaby.”
“Thank you” Gaby said with a smile then turning to Sandra she said, “the wedding happening so fast was my choice” she explained. “I did not want to look like a pregnant bride so it had to happen quick.”
“When are you due?”
“Six months Gaby said. “We had our twelve week scan the other day.”
“So he’ll be called Lawson right” Lawson joked.
“If he’s a boy, we’ll consider it” Gaby said with a laugh.
“No way” Josh said “one Lawson in my life is plenty.”
The other three laughed.

Part 601

Five months later Gaby had given up work and was going stir crazy at home. One night after Josh had come home from work and Gaby had snapped at him for the forth time in five minutes he yelled “that’s it. Get a jacket and get in the car.”
Shocked, Gaby just looked at him.
“You heard me” he said.
“Where are we going?”
“Out.”
“So you don’t have to listen to me yell?” she snapped.
“Yes” he said.
Gaby looked away as tears burned her eyes. She knew she was being unreasonable but she needed him to understand how hard this was for her. She was frustrated and uncomfortable and scared.
Josh sat down beside her. “Gaby” he said.
She turned her head to look at him.
“I was joking” he said with a smile. “We’re going for a drive so you can get some fresh air and a change of scenery. You can yell as much as you want, okay.”
Gaby couldn’t stop the tears overflowing now. She closed her eyes.
He pulled her into his arms. “I know this is difficult. I’m sorry I yelled at ya.”
Gaby wrapped her arms around him. “I’m sorry I’ve been so horrible.”
Josh lifted her face to look at him. “You couldn’t be horrible if you tried” and lowering his head, he kissed her.

Epilogue

Five weeks later Gaby woke in the hospital from an afternoon nap and looked over at Josh siting next to the bed holding their day only daughter. He was looking down at her with awe.

“How is she?” she asked.

“Perfect” Josh said. He still couldn’t believe she was his. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. He had what he had always wanted, his own family and he’d never been happier. Leaning over to kiss his wife he said “thank you.”

Gaby smiled “are you going to say that everytime I wake up for the rest of her life.”

“I might” Josh said with a crooked smile.

Gaby laughed “as I’ve said a couple of times already.”

Josh grinned at her understatement.

“You’re welcome” she continued. “Now could you bring that mouth over here and kiss me properly before she wakes up.”

Josh grinned again and standing he carefully placed Savannah May Joshua in her clear baby basket provided by the hospital. Then after a last look he turned to Gaby and said “move over.”

“Josh” Gaby said with a laugh, “what if a nurse comes in?”

“So what, we’re legal.”

Still laughing Gaby moved herself across as much as she could in the narrow bed. But as she moved her smile turned to a grimace. Savannah had been born by cesarian section after a bit of a fraught labour. It had scared the hell out of Josh he’d told her afterwards and Gaby had admitted she wasn’t feeling too calm herself at the time, eventhough she hadn’t let him see that. She needed to think positive for her own peace of mind as much as his.

“You okay?” Josh said worried now that he’d caused her pain by getting her to move.

“Yep, all good. I guess you can’t be cut in two and expect it not to hurt for a while.”

“Sure?” he said.

“Get up here” she said with a smile.

Josh settled himself beside her, doing his best not to hurt her and lowering his head, he kissed her. At first it was a gentle caress, as he was worried he’d cause her more pain her but as she responded, he deeped it and all his fear and emotion of the last couple of days found a release.

Gaby sighed as he raised his head.

“Sorry” he said.

She smiled. “Don’t be. I’ve missed that.”

He grinned “I love you Gaby and I love our little girl.”

“I love you too and I know Savannah will.”

“How can you be so sure?” he said with a smile as he traced her jaw with his finger.

“Easy” Gaby said, her smile widening “she’s female.”

Josh laughed and then he kissed her again.

And after 600 parts and serveral years, the end.
