Within a few minutes she walked back into the bedroom with
two mugs. He dropped his tools and took the mug she held out. “I got the top one out” he said. “The bottom
one doesn’t want to be as co-operative.”
“Well we are one step closer anyway.”
“What are you thinking is in there?” he said.
“I have no idea” Jaya said. “I had a look and going by the
surrounding room to me it looks like it might be a bigger space than just a
cupboard.”
“Mind if I check it out?” he said.
“No, I’d like to hear your opinion.”
Walker stepped out of the room. Jaya stayed where she was
but she could hear him moving around in the next room. A few minutes later he
came back and said “I think you might be right. It seems bigger than a cupboard
but if it’s a room you would think there would be a window.”
“I hadn’t even thought of that” Jaya said considering the
problem for a moment before adding “maybe there is one we haven’t noticed.”
“Let’s have a look then” he said and led the way out of the
room. Jaya followed him as he walked out the front door and around the side of
the house.
“Do you know where all these windows lead to?”
Jaya studied them. “The first one is the front room, the
second one is the second bedroom and the third one is the back bedroom. No wait
she said the third bedroom window is further down. So the second bedroom must
have two windows.”
“Does it?” he said.
Jaya turned her head to look at him “I don’t know now.” Her
head turned back to look at the windows. She saw now that the second window in
that area was the only on not open. She had opened all the windows that morning
she thought, but she could have missed one. Moving back she walked along the
side the house until she was standing in front of the closed window and tried
to see through the glass but it looked liked there was something covering it.
It looked different to the curtains in the other windows. Why had she not
noticed that window before? Why hadn’t anyone else?
“Let’s check it out” Walker said. He had moved down to where
she was standing.
Jaya
nodded and they walked back into the house.
